This morning we walked along the intermittant stream on campis that drains into Black's Run. The quality of the stream varied from place to place and improved as we got to the area in the arboretum. I didn't realize it, but a stream in a forest gets much more of its energy from leaf fall than from photosynthetic activity. A rubric for assessing stream quality was discussed by Lou Helfrich prior to the walk. The information that we got could be useful for biology as well as earth science.
